Matt Haig on Kindness

You have no control over who people think you are. So don’t worry about it. If they want to hate some fictional version of you that exists in their mind, let them. Don’t exhaust yourself winning over people you can’t win over. Go where the kindness is.

Matt Haig on Ambition

Ambition or talent: which matters more to success?

I can’t differentiate between the two — the right kind of ambition is a talent. All my writing comes from a sense of some lack of fulfilment, like I’ve got a point to prove.

Matt Haig on Accepting Yourself

“Don’t let anyone think you aren’t enough. Don’t feel you have to achieve more just to be accepted. Be happy with your own self, minus upgrades. Stop dreaming of imaginary goals and finishing lines. Accept what marketing doesn’t want you to: you are fine. You lack nothing.”
